June 27th 28th ARRL Field Day Report

June 13th
The station operated the ARRL VHF contest from Mount Tolmie near Victoria, BC Canada and made contacts on 20 Meters. Story and images can be found here.June 6th
During the Westcoast ARA Net on June 1st there were 32 Check-ins, both local and through IRLP. 21 contacts were made on 80 Meters by Alan Mallet, VA7AWM who was using his remote station within the Victoria Emergency Management Agency's mobile vehicle. Many thanks go to all amateurs who came out to the RASC Victoria Centre's Star Party and participated.

GB400IYA on the air in England
Specially permitted UK Callsign issued to Sidmouth Observatory by UK Ofcom to commemorate the International Year of Astronomy and 400 years of Telescope Astronomy. The Station will be operated Saturday and/or Sunday each week until 31st December 2009.

VE7IYOA will be on-the-air in June 2009 and be available during field day June 28th and 29th in Victoria, B.C Canada. It will Commemorate the 400th Anniversary of Galileo Galilei's first look at the sky through an Optical Instrument.
Interested amateur radio enthusiasts willing to setup similar Special Event Stations around the world Commemorating IYA please let me know so it may be listed on the website.
Listen for DR4G a Special Event Station in Germany is on-the-air from Feb 1st to December 31st 2009 celebrating IYA.
The VE7IYOA QSL Card is in process of design and will be presented as soon as it is completed.
April 2, 2009 - IYA Canada Commemorative Stamps Unveiled - Canada Post unveiled two commemorative stamps today highlighting Canada's achievements in the science of astronomy, and marking the celebrations for International Year of Astronomy during 2009. It was appropriate that these two commemorative stamps were unveiled atop Observatory Hill, where NRC operates the nation's leading astronomical research facility.
